Happy New Year all! I hope you all had a great holiday. Let’s get on with this year 2012. It’s going to be awesome! Here’s an update on everything Reverence….

We’ve been busy preparing to transition. In less than six months we touchdown in Boulder, Co. It's going to require a lot of work for each team member. We’re selling homes, paying off remaining debt and freeing ourselves up to move in June. That will take time. We’re also doing a lot of back end work on Reverence, like filling out 501(C)3 papers to be a tax-exempt, non-profit in Colorado. It’s like writing the Bible.

We just finished filming our next interview with national recording artist, Andy Cherry. His debut album, “Nothing Left To Fear” releases nationwide in March and it’s amazing! This will be our greatest interview yet, with a full-length exclusive live video recorded at Forest Pointe in Charlotte, NC by the REV team. I can’t wait to release it. I will keep you posted.

I’ve also been teaching and writing. My New Years Day message, “Therefore: Our Call to Legacy” is on REVtv now. I encourage you to go check it out. It will give you more of an idea of what The Reverence Movement is and give you some serious direction for this year 2012. Just click on the REVtv link on the right of this page.

The Reverence Movement facebook page is now live as well! It’s just another way to keep everybody updated on the latest news and connect with people. I would love for you to “like” the page if you want to receive updates on our progress or say nice things :)

Launch time is drawing nearer. We’re getting nervous with excitement and fear of the unknown. We could use your prayers and encouragement right now. We’ll keep you posted as we go! Love you all.

Sarah DeShields - The Pilgrim Way

This week we had the honor of interviewing singer/songwriter Sarah DeShields for the Thanksgiving Day release of her album, The Pilgrim Way.

A native of Scotland, Sarah’s roots permeate this fresh, eclectic mix of lyrical and melodic tracks. You’re immediately drawn in by its unique resonance that’s unlike anything else you're listening to. It’s poetry and symphony together that stays with you long after the songs are over. The Pilgrim Way makes you want to open God’s word and bask in it's power.

In our interview, Sarah gives us some insight to her inspiration for The Pilgrim Way, as well as how she got that perfect title. Then, we ask Sarah some Reverence Movement questions about awe and legacy. It was great to see her give such intense thought and consideration to them. She answers our questions as only an artist, made in the image of God, can. Sarah is a worship pastor at Renovatus Church in Charlotte, NC and is obviously very passionate about what she does. She and her husband Kevin have two young children. She’s well known and respected for, not only her musical abilities, but for her humble heart as well.

A Rev Team Introduction

One of the most amazing confirmations to me, when it came to starting the Reverence Movement, has been the team God is assembling. I want to introduce you to Brian and Chelsea Wolfcale.

Early on, as we were putting the final touches on the visionand looking for the perfect city to call home, I prayed that God wouldassemble a team of pros. However, Ivowed to not talk people into coming. I wanted to let God call them to Reverence. I was so adamant about God calling the teamtogether that I found myself trying to talk them out of it.

I had asked Brian to do a couple of things for me as Iprepared the vision. Not long after that, heapproached me with this,

“Chelsea and I would like to be a part of Reverence.”

I encouraged them to pray long and hard about theirdecision. I had nothing to offer themfinancially or physically. I think mywords went something like this;

“you’ll have to downsize everything andleave all that is comfortable to you. It will be the hardest thing you’ve ever done. But, I can give you this…”

It’s the promise of Jesus in Mark 10.

Peter, in an overwhelming moment, says this to Jesus: (Mark10:28-31)

28 “We have left everything to follow you!”

29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesusreplied, “no one who has left home or brothers orsisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age:homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along withpersecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

For Brian and Chelsea Wolfcale, that was enough. They didn’t even know where we were plantingat that point, but it didn’t matter. They are committed to live out their faith. Boulder is gaining two of the most humble andcreative people I know. The presentationof the real Jesus at Reverence will blow your mind because of their gifts. Our core values developed because of what Isaw in them.

Passion. The relentless pursuit of God.

Excellence. Never settling for mediocre, ever.

Relationship. A desire to engage all people in genuinerelationship.

Compassion. Always being aware of opportunities to lovesomeone.

Humility. Not being a know-it-all, but a living example.

Brian will be our lead producer. He's a genius when is comes to production, graphics and design. He put together the Reverence Movement website. Chelsea is busy being a new mom right now, but she's also an amazing artist and designer. She's a great photographer and very photogenic as well. Her picture is on the website twice already, see if you can find it :) Oh.......and she cuts my hair. That's totally cool.

The Wolfcales are leaving a legacy for God because of theirwillingness to risk it all and go anywhere for Him. They also have two young babies,Amberlynn and Micah. That’s some straightup faith. Show them some love!

Reverence Goes Public

Wow! This has been a long time coming. The vision is clear, the location is picked, the website is launched and now the news is out! Although just a newborn, The Reverence Movement is alive!

On Sunday November 13 we went public by announcing the news to our sending church, Forest Pointe in Belmont, NC and by posting to our facebooks and twitters. To me, that marks our day of inception. Happy Birthday Reverence :) Just like newborns though, we have a lot of growing up to do, but we’re making great strides already.

This is our “latest news” page. It’s designed to keep you up to date on the most recent happenings as we transition to Boulder, Co in June 2012 and beyond. To kick things off here on the news page, I thought I would take our first few posts to answer some frequently asked questions. Here we go….

Question: How did we get the name “The Reverence Movement”?

Answer: I picked the name based on a verse in Hebrews. The book of Hebrews is basically a sermon delivered to second generation Hebrew Christians who didn’t, themselves, spend time with Jesus, but were impacted in some way by the Christ movement. The unknown author of Hebrews passionately proclaims the supremacy of Christ. He makes his case that Jesus is the long awaited messiah. He ties Old-Testament prophecy to Jesus and speaks of the “new covenant” God made with His people through the sacrifice of Christ at the cross, for the sins of the entire world. At the end of his emphatic message to the people, the author sums up his sermon with this beautiful sentence:

Hebrews 12:28

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe

That one sentence says it all.

God is amazing…(insert Hebrews 12:28)

Love is powerful….(insert Hebrews 12:28)

Death is beaten….(insert Hebrews 12:28)

I give you The Reverence Movement.

Question: Where did the L3 come from?

Answer: For years I’ve been baffled why American Christians are perceived so different than the Jesus of the Bible. Did we miss His message completely? Do we believe in Christ but nothing changes within us? So a group of us decided to become students of the real Jesus, casting aside American church tradition and studying the attributes of Christ. There are many, but we found they all fit into one of these three categories:

Jesus lived in awe of God.

Jesus loved the world

Jesus left the greatest legacy of all time.

We felt that if we focused on those three things, we could best represent Him. The question is how to live them out as imperfect people. The answer is not a destination, but rather in the pursuit itself. We pursue:

Living in Awe of God

Loving the World as Jesus

Leaving a Legacy here on earth for God’s glory

We won't be perfect, but we will give it our best pursuit.

Becoming students of the real Jesus,
